The people of the Kusambuk Community lack many services that others take for granted. A journey of more than 2 hours in the back of a truck or a crowded bus is how they travel to the Provincial Capital of Wewak for banking, postal services, retail shopping, serious medical services, and more. More importantly, the 850 students currently attending the school have no onsite medical service.

Medical Centre

Medical treatment is very important to this comm unity as there is none on-sight for the church, community and almost 900 staff and students at the school. The proposed building for the Medical Centre is unfinished. It requires extending to accommodate a Waiting Area, Reception, Office, and Storeroom. It would also require Solar Power, Water Tank, Septic Toilet, Medical Supplies and Furnishings.

Mechanical Repair Shop

The Mechanical Repair Shop is an essential service which is currently lacking in the Kusambuk area. Instead of broken-down vehicles being left on the side of the road, a Mechanical Repair Shop would keep the school fleet, village commercial fleets, and private vehicles providing their services. The Mechanical Repair Shop would also provide training and employment opportunities for graduating students.

Post Office

This essential community service is located in Wewak some 2 hours’ drive away. The Kusambuk Community would benefit greatly by the provision of a fully-fledged local Post Office.

Bank

Full banking services are available in Wewak, the Provincial Capital, more than 2 hours’ drive from Kusambuk. As the economy of the area increases, onsite banking services will become essential to the businesses, co-operatives, and individuals of the Kusambuk area.

Police Station

The nearest Police presence is approximately 15 kilometres away. This means that the Police only attend series crimes. It also means that law and order can at times be an issue in the community. A local Police Station is a must as a part of the development of this community.

Community Centre

The large church building is in a sad state of repair. The community needs it to be replaced with a large community centre that can seat 1000 people for the use of the church and school. This size of building would also be used for indoor sports and cultural events. It could also have training and meeting rooms for a variety of other purposes.
